As a special needs parent, I know first hand how extra stressful photography sessions can be. I’ll never forget bringing my youngest who is on the spectrum to have a milestone portrait, and the photographer just stared at me when he wasn’t able to follow their prompts. Or, let’s not forget how much fun it is navigating the famous school photo day in the crowded gymnasium – complete with acoustic and sensory overload. If we actually made it through the line he would be so stressed out, the image was a total disaster, and the feeling of disappointment and even shame because we just didn’t fit in.
As a special needs photographer, I understand that capturing beautiful moments is about creating a comfortable, respectful environment that celebrates each individual's unique spirit.
My approach is simple: your loved one's comfort and joy come first.I know that traditional photo sessions can feel overwhelming, especially for children and adults with special needs.
That's why I focus on:
- Meeting them where they are at – never forcing or pressuring anything.
- Creating a calm, minimally distracting space
- Being patient and flexible with movement and engagement
- Allowing your loved one to be their authentically lovely selves.
Every person has a story worth telling, and their disability is just one part of who they are. My goal is to create an fun photography session and create images that highlight their humanity, personality, and inner light.
Whether we're photographing at home or in a studio, I work closely with families to understand individual needs and create a positive, stress-free experience.
